Ubisoft’s XDefiant may add factions, weapons, maps & modes inspired by Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry: New Dawn, The Crew & Rabbids, per datamined leaks. Despite launch issues, the F2P shooter is gaining positive feedback, with fans eager for its ambitious future content teased in these revealing leaks, some removed by Ubisoft DMCA takedowns.
Ubisoft’s recently released free-to-play shooter XDefiant is gearing up to introduce a series of updates that will blur the lines between the publisher’s popular game franchises.
According to leaks from a dataminer, XDefiant’s post-launch roadmap seems to integrate content from major Ubisoft properties like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry: New Dawn, The Crew, and even the quirky Rabbids universe.
While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about specific details, the leaked information points to new factions, character skins, weapons, and maps inspired by these vastly different gaming worlds coming to XDefiant over time.
The French gaming giant has reportedly filed DMCA takedown notices to remove some of the more revealing leaks from the internet. However, details continue to circulate across online forums and social media.
Launched just last week after some delays, XDefiant aims to bring a new free-to-play competitive shooter experience reminiscent of Call of Duty to consoles and PC. While the initial days were marred by matchmaking issues, the game has received a broadly positive reception from players praising its more streamlined footprint.
Ubisoft’s decision to blend XDefiant’s gameplay with beloved franchises could be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it allows the publisher to cross-promote its popular IPs and potentially draw in new players. However, integrating disparate elements runs the risk of making the experience feel disjointed and gimmicky if not executed thoughtfully.
Only time will tell if XDefiant’s future franchise crossovers hit the mark or miss the target. But one thing is certain – Ubisoft is betting big that players will find the idea of battling as Rabbids in a gritty modern shooter an appealing prospect. Copy
Ubisoft’s XDefiant’s Roadmap Leaks, Teasing Franchise Crossover Mayhem
Ubisoft’s newly launched free-to-play shooter XDefiant appears to have some wildly ambitious and genre-mashing plans for its first year of content, if newly leaked details prove accurate.
Over on Twitter, a user named Rogue TX has been sharing what appears to be a treasure trove of datamined files and in-game assets from XDefiant itself. This leaked data seems to provide a roadmap for the shooter’s first 12 months, detailing new factions, game modes, weapons, and more that Ubisoft may have in the pipeline.
According to the leaks, XDefiant’s first four new factions coming in year one will draw from several of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, including:
- Assassins from the Assassin’s Creed series
- Operators from Ghost Recon Breakpoint
- GSG9 members from Rainbow Six Siege
- The Highwaymen gang from Far Cry: New Dawn
Rogue TX claims to have uncovered in-game icons, map names, character renders, animations and other assets pointing to the addition of these factions. However, it’s important to note that game development plans can change, so some or all of this content may not make it into the final game.
But the leaks don’t stop at new factions inspired by Ubisoft’s shooter and action-adventure franchises. Rogue TX also found data suggesting several new game modes like Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Infection could be on the way, along with a diverse array of new weapons. These include a sawed-off shotgun, Tommy Gun, FAMAS assault rifle, turrets, RC cars, FAL, and G36 rifles.
In perhaps the most bizarre twist, the leaked files hint at the possibility of factions based on Ubisoft’s open-world driving game The Crew and the wacky Rabbids universe making an appearance in the gritty shooter experience.
“How would that work? I have no idea. But as a Ubisoft sicko who plays and enjoys many of the publisher’s games, I’m excited for this wild mish-mash of content,” Rogue TX tweeted, leaning into the absurd crossover potential. Some fans have even jokingly called for a Just Dance faction to complete the genre-spanning madness.
While these more outlandish leaks may seem far-fetched, Ubisoft’s own actions have arguably lent them credibility. The publisher has reportedly issued DMCA takedown notices to remove some, though not all, of Rogue TX’s datamined images and screenshots from Twitter. This suggests Ubisoft is actively trying to restrict the spread of this inside information.
For now, these datamined details paint the clearest picture yet of the wild, franchise-melding future Ubisoft may have in store for their new free-to-play FPS as it seemingly aims to bring together vastly different gaming worlds into one explosive experience.
