PlayStation VR2 Expands Its Horizons with PC Compatibility Starting August 7

PlayStation VR2 Breaks Boundaries: PC Compatibility Unveiled

In an exciting move for virtual reality enthusiasts, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation VR2 headset will soon be compatible with PC games through a dedicated adapter. Starting August 7, players can access the vast library of SteamVR titles, expanding their gaming horizons beyond the PlayStation 5 ecosystem.

The PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, priced at $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99, will allow users to connect their VR headset to a compatible PC, unlocking a treasure trove of immersive experiences. To get started, players will need the adapter, a commercially available DisplayPort 1.4 cable (sold separately), a Steam account, and a PC that meets the minimum system requirements.

Minimum PC Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture)
  • RAM: 8 GB or more
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture), NVIDIA RTX series, AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later
  • DisplayPort: DisplayPort 1.4 (standard or Mini DisplayPort output port)
  • USB: Direct connection only
  • Bluetooth: Bluetooth 4.0 or later

Once connected, players can download the PlayStation VR2 App and the SteamVR App from Steam to set up their play area, customize settings, and dive into an expansive catalog of VR games. Popular titles like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder will be available, alongside numerous other open-world, survival horror, sports simulations, puzzlers, and free-to-play fan favorites.

It’s important to note that while the PS VR2 was designed specifically for the PlayStation 5, certain features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble) will not be available when playing on PC. However, players can still enjoy 4K visuals, a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering, and 3D Audio in supported games.

As part of Sony’s Days of Play celebration, gamers in select regions can also take advantage of a $100 discount on the PS VR2 and the PS VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle (for PS5) until June 12.

With this PC compatibility, the PlayStation VR2 aims to provide an even more expansive and diverse VR gaming experience, catering to a broader audience of virtual reality enthusiasts. Sony’s decision to bridge the gap between console and PC platforms further solidifies the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge VR technology.
